Unpublished Africa Launches Second Photography Week: Impact in Mind
Harare, Zimbabwe – [21/11/24] – Unpublished Africa, a platform dedicated to empowering visual storytellers, is thrilled to announce the second edition of its Unpublished in Africa photography week. Themed “Impact in Mind,” this year’s event, scheduled for the 23-30 November 2024, will delve into the powerful role of visual storytelling in driving social change and shaping narratives.
The “Impact in Mind” theme encourages photographers and visual storytellers to consider how their work can address pressing social issues, amplify marginalised voices, and inspire action. By exploring the intersection of art and activism, the event aims to foster a community of photographers committed to using their lens to make a difference.
Key Highlights of the Photography Week:
Virtual Discussions and Workshops:
Visual storytellers, photographers and art enthusiasts can expect to engage with African creatives and cultural practitioners and learn from their insights on topics such as building visual stories, and storytelling techniques, documenting for cultural heritage and documentary photography.
In-Person Photography Walks:
Hosted by Leonardo Thomas, Tinashe Pawandirwa and Namukolo Siyumbwa, the multi-city community engaging walks will take place on the 23rd and 30th of November as well as the 8th of December to encourage the photographers to build community in their cities. Attendees can expect to explore local communities, capture compelling images, and connect with fellow photographers.
Impact in Mind Exhibition:
As one of Unpublished Africa’s mandates is to create platforms to showcase work by African creatives, the event will end with a group photography exhibition. Photographers were invited to submit photography stories that follow the theme “Impact in Mind”.
Unpublished Africa is a platform dedicated to supporting emerging African visual storytellers. We provide opportunities for creatives to showcase their work, connect with industry professionals, and contribute to the visual storytelling landscape.
